Cavan woman says Budget must be a 'turning point' for young people

Kathyrn Walsh says young people are facing financial pressures right across the board.

Three-in-five under-25s are considering emigration, with almost one-in-three strongly considering leaving Ireland to seek a better quality of life.

That's according to findings published by the National Youth Council of Ireland which examined the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on young people, with rent and accommodation emerging as the single greatest financial challenge.

Ballyjamesduff woman Kathyrn Walsh is Director of Policy and Advocacy at the National Youth Council.

Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show in relation to the findings, Ms Walsh said "this isn't just about hardship, it's about young people feeling like Ireland is no longer a place where they can build a future."

With young people facing financial pressures right across the board, the Co Cavan woman says Budget 2026 "needs" to be a turning point.
