A local father has raised his concerns over the lack of progress made to source a site for a permanent special needs school in Monaghan.
Two years on from an initial promise by Government, Paddy McAloon says there is still no site picked.
Paddy McAloon is a member of Special Needs Active Parents or SNAP, a Monaghan based campaign group of parents who have children with special needs.
While he welcomed the temporary special school in Castleblayney which holds 18 places, he believes a permanent site is needed to cater for the numbers that is needed going forward.
The local father says over €3million has already been spent on the temporary Castleblayney site, which he believes is "not fit for purpose."
Speaking to Northern Sound, Paddy says "we're not making any progress" and it seems that Government is happy sticking more prefabs on a temporary site as opposed to sourcing a permanent one.
Paddy says young people like his son are entitled to appropriate services, however they continue to be failed.
He has called on Government to "put the money into something that is permanent and stop squandering it."
