Cavan-Monaghan TD Cathy Bennett has warned that "clinical and governance failures" at Children's Health Ireland remain "unaddressed."
The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB) and Children's Health Ireland (CHI) were before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee recently on the foot of further delays in the construction of the National Children's Hospital following a series of revelations in relation to surgeries carried out on children.
Following her questioning of the Board and CHI at her first full meeting of the Committee, Bennett said it was "shocking" to learn that Consultant A is also subject to two further ongoing reviews arising from concerns related to clinical outcomes and unnecessary hip operations on children.
She told Northern Sound that the committee's ability to get answers for parents and children regarding the carrying out of unnecessary hip dysplasia surgeries at CHI was "regrettably hampered by an as of yet unpublished audit."
The Sinn Fein TD believes families are entitled to a higher standard of clinical care for their children that CHI have overseen.
Deputy Bennett says she will "press" for both the Board and CHI to return to the Committee in the period ahead once reports into their scandal ridden organisation are finally published:
