A local councillor has reiterated his commitment to seeing the Hive of Knowledge artwork removed from storage and reinstated in a prominent public location in Monaghan Town.
Cllr Pauric Clerkin confirmed that he has formally requested the MD Executive to progress this matter, emphasising the importance of restoring this significant piece of public art for the community to enjoy.
At the July 2025 Monaghan Municipal District meeting, councillors were presented with three potential relocation options for the artwork.
The options were Church Square / Mill Street junction, the Peace Campus car park entrance, beside Monaghan Library & Monaghan Museum and outside Wilson's Shop on Market Street.
Following this, at the September 2025 MD meeting, Cllr Clerkin had proposed that the artwork be located at the entrance to the Peace Campus Car Park, citing its proximity to the library and its educational and community value.
This proposal was passed by vote at that time. However, further correspondence from Leonard Engineering has since suggested that the artwork should be located in the centre of Monaghan Town, while also confirming that it cannot be returned to its former location at the Courthouse.
The issue is scheduled to be brought back before councillors at the February MD meeting for further consideration.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Clerkin said: “The Hive of Knowledge is an important piece of public artwork that belongs to the people of Monaghan. I am committed to working with the Executive and fellow councillors to ensure it is taken out of storage and returned to public view in a location that best serves the town and its people.
"My priority remains ensuring the artwork is visible, accessible, and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike."
