Sinn Fein's Paul Gibbons was elected Cathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney MD.
The decision was made during the MD'S AGM yesterday.
While Cllr Gibbons will take up the role as Cathaoirleach, Fine Gael's Peter Conlon was elected Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney MD.
Cllr Gibbons was first elected to Monaghan County Council following last year's local election in June 2024.
The Castleblayney representative was also co-opted to the Cathaoirleach position of Monaghan County Council back in December after his party colleague Cathy Bennett was elected to Dail Eireann.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Gibbons said it was a "huge honour" to carry out this role and he is looking forward to a busy year head:
