Close to 100 new homes could be built across the region through the conversion of vacant commercial buildings.
The data was published by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne.
The Minister for Housing revealed the number of notifications received by local authorities to convert vacant commercial properties into new residential units.
Between 2018 and 2024, Cavan County Council received 31 notifications under planning exemptions, paving the way for the potential delivery of 70 new homes.
While Monaghan County Council received 10 -- which could see the development of 27 new residential units across the county.
In 2022, the government removed the requirement for planning permission for the conversion of vacant pubs into homes.
Since then, 6 notifications were received across the two councils for the change of use of pubs to provide a total of 12 new dwellings.
Nationally, just over 3,400 new homes could be built throughout the country through the conversion of unused commercial properties.
