A local councillor has highlighted his dismay that the Cavan main tourist office does not open on Saturdays.
Cllr Stiofan Conaty said it seemed strange to him that the office was closed on what he describes as the busiest day of the week for tourism.
He called on Cavan County Council to consider opening it at the weekends.
The tourist office is located on the first floor on the library and Cllr Conaty said that staff and patrons of the library say they could set their clocks to the sight of confused Americans every single Saturday, seeking information on where to go or what to do while in Cavan. The Sinn Fein councillor said they have made the effort of coming to Cavan, they have money to spend in Cavan, and we have so much to offer them across Cavan.
Cllr Conaty said we're not just talking about overseas tourists here, in terms of internal tourism and encouraging visitors in from other counties, of all days in the week, Saturday is the day they are going to come. The Ballyhaise native said it's a bizarre situation that needs to be addressed urgently.
