A Co. Cavan author has been nominated for the An Post Children's Book of the Year.
The public can vote for Dave Rudden's Tales of Darkisle book 1: Conn of the Dead.
The author grew up in Bawnboy in Co. Cavan as a "book kid" and always had an interest in Irish mythology.
This is reflected in the fantasy novel, where Irish mythology plays a strong role.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr. Rudden said that the standard of writing in Ireland is incredibly high.
He said: "For a small country, we have produced incredible children's authors.
"Funnily enough, you think maybe crime or one of the others would be the hard fought categories, but actually, it's children's," Mr. Rudden explained.
