A Co Cavan woman is on a mission to spread the important message that there's "life after cancer." Anne Taylor from Munterconnaught was part of the 'Sea of Change choir' who made it through to the finals of 'Ireland's Got Talent' back in 2019. In 2017 Anne had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour on her throat. As a result of the surgery, Anne also lost half of her thyroid and there was a strong possibility that she would have no voice afterwards.
Despite this, not only did Anne defy the odds but she has since used her voiced to inspire others and spread the message that there's "life after cancer." The talented choir which is made up of cancer survivors and people who have been impacted by cancer performed this month in the National Concert Hall to raise funds for the charity - Aoibheann's Pink Tie.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Anne says it's important to be kind to yourself and do something for you, particularly after a cancer diagnosis; "We don't make light of the situation but what we're saying is that there's life after cancer. We know how difficult it is, we have girls going through active treatment and I have lost a lot of friends to cancer. Gong through that journey you get caught up in treatment, you get up in everything else and it's only afterwards when you think to yourself - God what do I do now. Don't forget about you, be kind to yourself and if you're kind to yourself you'll find that it helps other people as well. Don't be afraid to get involved in things and don't be afraid to be honest about how you're feeling, it's a worrying time for anyone going through a cancer diagnosis and you are focused on protecting other family members, and everybody else but it's important not to forget about yourself, because you're important too."
