Cavan Park Run is celebrating a very special occasion in the coming weeks with the 100th event taking place on the last Saturday in August. It has gone from strength to strength since its inception in January 2020 despite the backdrop and subsequent fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
Organiser Kim McCafferty says the 'core' of Park Run - which is a global movement - is to bring people together where they can socialise and exercise for free. She highlighted how the 100th park run at Con Smith Park will take place on the 26th of August next.
Kim added that there's lots of options now for people across Cavan and Monaghan when it comes park runs. "We're really lucky in Cavan and Monaghan. We started in 2020 with Con Smith Park Run for Cavan Town but around that time Virginia started one at Deerpark Forest; Cootehill has one running out beside Erica's Fairy Forest for the last seven years; and now there is one in Mullagh.
"So, we have four in Co Cavan alone and that is testament to how popular it is and what a great event it is. Also it's a bit of an anti-capitalist thing in that it's always free and is a way to come together - even if you're not into running or walking - but to volunteer and have a bit of craic on a Saturday morning," said Kim.
