A Co Monaghan woman who wishes to remain anonymous has highlighted her concerns over waiting lists for mammograms and ultrasounds. Following a CT scan four weeks ago, a 1.8cm nodule was discovered on her left breast and a small nodule on her left lung. As a result of the findings, the woman was referred to the Beaumont Breast Clinic in Dublin, however the appointment is not until the 22nd of May, which means a space of four months since her initial CT was done. Despite numerous calls to the clinic in Dublin, the Monaghan woman was told there was "nothing they could do" in relation to the current waiting times. In a detailed statement issued to Northern Sound, the local woman outlined her frustration over the major delay in appointments adding that "early detection is key" when it comes to a possible Cancer diagnosis. The local woman said she has priced going private but it is "very expensive" but she may have "no option" as she is not sleeping, adding that her "anxiety is through the roof."
She told Northern Sound; "My own doctor then referred me to the Beaumont Breast Clinic in Dublin. She had told me that it shouldn't be to long as they operate a triple assessment all day clinic, that you attend and get a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy done all on the one day. Three weeks later, I received my appointment in the post for the 22nd May 2025 so three months away ( it will be then be 4 months since my CT was done). I rang the clinic in Dublin and they said there was nothing they could do and that was the current waiting times. I rang my own doctor in Monaghan back and explained the situation, she said that she has since found out that there are major delays in getting appointments across all the hospitals in Dublin.
"So here I am, having to wait three months to get a mammogram and ultrasound. Please God my lump is benign but what if it is cancer. Early detection and intervention is key. I have priced going private but it is very expensive but I might have no option as I am not sleeping and my anxiety is through the roof.
