Conor McGregor says if he was to be the next President of Ireland, he would give power to the local councils.
Speaking in Monaghan yesterday, he says he wanted to see more power given to the local councils around Ireland so they can decide the outcome of their own communities.
Mr McGregor made a surprise visit to Cavan and Monaghan yesterday as he attempted to rally support in his Presidential bid. McGregor announced that he plans to run for the country's top office and has revealed to Northern Sound that he intends on visiting as many areas as possible over the coming weeks.
The former MMA fighter must be nominated by four local councils if he is to be named on the ballot, a move that seems unlikely at this point.
He visited a number of local businesses while in Monaghan and also visited Cavan Town and Ballyjamesduff last night. Speaking to Northern Sound Mr McGregor said see he wanted to see a democratic process play out as he called on council representatives to back him. When asked why he wanted to be President, he said he wanted to see more power given to the local councils around Ireland so they can decide the outcome of their own communities.
Meanwhile, when asked does he see himself as a good role model, McGregor had this to say.
Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan David Maxwell met with Mr McGregor while in Monaghan.
McGregor sought his support but he was told the local TD is pledging his full support to party candidate Heather Humphreys.
