A local councillor has called on Cavan County Council to lobby the government to do something about the huge costs faced by pubs and clubs for showing live sporting events.
Cllr Shane P O'Reilly is calling out providers such as Sky and others who he said charge premium fees of up to €1,600 per month in some cases.
He said such bills on an sector that is struggling and continues to struggle is unfair and hard to justify.
Cllr O'Reilly says the pub plays a huge part in any community especially rural ones and they offer a public service that is the fabric of society.
He believes these providers like Sky and others are exploiting pub owners when it comes to the screening of live sports.
