Criminals are taking advantage of closed Garda stations across the country.
That's according to local Senator Sarah O'Reilly. The Aontu representative says we know that are falling countrywide, and the local Garda Division of Cavan, Monaghan and Louth is no different.
She says since 2011, at least 140 garda stations have been closed across the country, adding that this is truly shocking as our population is rising leading to further demand on already over stretched resources.
Senator O'Reilly says a major overhaul of tackling crime is needed. "They have no confidence in the Garda Commissioner and for the second year in a row neither he nor the Minister for Justice will attend the GRA Conference , this is like a stalemate and is seriously damaging. "If frontline Gardai have expressed no confidence in Drew Harris, how on earth can the public have any confidence in him.
“20 years of FF and FG and Ireland now has the lowest number of Gardaí per capita in 20 years. Ireland has one of the lowest number of police per capita in the whole of the European Union."
