A significant cross-party motion fully in Irish has been brought before Cavan County Council.

Sinn Fein's Stiofan Conaty says it shows that the Irish language doesn’t belong to one party or another, but that it belongs to us all.

He said we all have a part to play with the responsibility to protect, promote and revive Irish as the spoken tongue of the people of Ireland.

Cllr Conaty said this can be achieved if only the political will was there to help along the way.

He says the revival is happening all over the country, including in County Cavan.

Cllr Conaty commended the groups and organisations around Cavan for their efforts this year for Seachtain na Gaeilge, coming together as they did to coordinate a programme of events for
the entire county.
