The family of a Co Cavan man who was involved in a serious crash in Western Australia said the 25-year-old is making progress "slowly but surely."
25-year-old Ben Denning Galligan from Crosserlough sustained life-changing injuries, including a right arm amputation, spinal injuries, and a traumatic brain injury as a result of the collision which occurred in Perth on October 14th.
Oliver Galligan who made the journey over to Perth said his son has undergone multiple surgeries on his arm and is being treated for spinal injuries, for which he currently has a halo head brace in place to stabilise his neck and spine.
He is moving all of his limbs and responding to some commands, even while in his coma.
Posting on a GoFundMe page which was set up to aid the recovery of the 25-year-old, his father Oliver described his progress as "encouraging" and his family and friends are feeling "hopeful" as he takes these "small but important steps forward."
The family also thanked people for the outpouring of support from everyone in Cavan, across Ireland, and all over Australia.
This includes those who attended masses for Ben to those sending messages, prayers, and donations.
Olive says the "kindness" of people "means more than words can say."
His family said: "Ben’s journey will require immense strength and community support. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and help give him the best possible chance to rebuild his life after this devastating accident."
