Crossmaglen a 'busy centre' despite years of oppression

The former GAA player said people only appreciate what we have now when you look back and see how oppressed the people of South Armagh were at that time.

Former Armagh footballer Paul Hearty has spoken out about how his faith helped him through the Troubles. The Crossmaglen man was a member of the Armagh squad that claimed the 2002 All-Ireland senior football championship along with winning five Ulster titles and two national football leagues. In an article in The Irish Catholic last week the South Armagh man spoke about how his faith became a refuge from the madness and hardship of everyday life during the Troubles.

Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, the GAA star described the 80s as a "very difficult time" for Crossmaglen. Despite this, through the benefit of the Peace Process and the Good Friday Agreement, Paul says Crossmaglen has turned into a "bustling centre" full of entrepreneurs and business people. He told today's Joe Finnegan Show that over the space of 30 years Crossmaglen has come on leaps and bounds:
