A local councillor has welcomed the establishment of the Sliabh Beagh Curlew Conservation Trust.
Cllr Pauric Clerkin says this is an important step in protecting one of our most loved and threatened native birds.
Curlew numbers across Ireland have fallen sharply in recent years.
Loss of habitat, changes in land use, predators, and disturbance during nesting season are all making it harder for chicks to survive.
The Fine Gael representative says the work of this new Trust is "very important."
He told Northern Sound that by protecting habitats, monitoring nests, working with local people, and raising awareness, they are helping to give the Curlew a better chance of survival into the future.
