Deposit Return Scheme surpasses 2.5 billion returns

2.5 billion cans and bottles have been Re-turned in Ireland.

The scheme was introduced 2 years ago, and since then the recycling rate of relevant containers has risen from 49 to 90 per cent.

Re-turn says more than 1.4 billion drinks containers were returned across Ireland in 2025 alone. That follows 874 million returns in its first year, from launch through to the end of 2024.
