Sinn Féin TD Cathy Bennett said she is saddened to hear news of the downgrading of one of SOSAD's services and will be highlighting the issue in the Dáil as a matter of urgency.
SOSAD, the suicide awareness and prevention service, has announced it's to cease the messaging service it has been providing. SOSAD, which stands for Save Our Sons and Daughters, also provides a range of mental health and bereavement support services.
The charity described online it's "devastated" to make the announcement and said it was down to the lack of sustainable funding. Deputy Bennett said she will stress to the Fianna Fáil / Fine Gael government how vital the service is to local people suffering with mental health issues (listen below):
