Writer and Columnist with the Roscommon Herald newspaper, John Mulligan believes Heather Humphreys was dropped into the race when Mairead McGuiness dropped out and Fine Gael didn't have a sub.

He believes there was potential for Heather Humphreys to receive transfers from Jim Gavin.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Mr Mulligan explained his take on what played out.
