A driver in Cavan has been included on a list of the worst speeding offenders during National Slow Down Day.
The 24-hour national speed enforcement operation conducted by An Garda Síochána and the RSA yesterday, picked up 484 vehicles driving over the speed limit.
Among the examples of high speeds detected was a driver on the N3 near Stradone, Co. Cavan who was speeding at 136 km per hour in a 100 km zone. The Stradone driver was the motorist with the second highest speed over the limit.
Other speeds recorded include 105 km per hour in a 60 zone in Co. Kilkenny and 142 km per hour in a 120 zone in Meath. An Garda Síochána conducts a number of high profile National SlowDown Days every year with the aim of reminding motorists of the dangers of speeding.
