The X109 bus service from Dublin to Cavan is so over-subscribed that some passengers wishing to travel to Cavan could find themselves waiting up to three hours for a bus with a seat. Senator Pauline Tully told the Seanad that a woman and three children were among the many Cavan people left standing in the cold recently. The newly-elected Sinn Fein senator said the regular bus service out of the capital back to Cavan is regularly full to capacity, particularly the 3, 4 and 5 o'clock services, resulting on some occasions, people waiting three hours for a seat.
Senator Tully said she has repeatedly brought the issue up with Bus Éireann who have passed the matter on to the NTA, who in turn have told her they would address the issue but, nothing has been done. Speaking directly to Minister Jerry Buttimer who has special responsibility for rural transport in the Seanad, Pauline Tully said many of those from Cavan using the service are travelling to appointments in the James Connolly Hospital and the bus stop doesn't have a bus shelter against the elements:
