Dublin's O'Connell Street came to a standstill today, as a nationwide protest calling for tax on fuel to be cut converged on the capital.

Tractors, buses and Lorries blocked main roads in other towns and cities across the country also.

It was a very unfamiliar sight in Dublin city centre for on lookers as tractors, some pulling trailers and slurry tanks, rolled down O'Connell Street. Participants in the protest were highlighting the impact rising fuel prices are having on their livelihoods.

Michael Farrelly who operates a haulage business in the region says things are very bad. Speaking to Northern Sound at the top of O'Connell Street, he says the support from the wider community has been immense.

He says more needs to be done to help everyone with the cost of living expenses.
