A local Aontú representative has shared her concerns over the use of e-scooters in Monaghan Town.
Oliva Larkin says despite existing legislation, it is almost impossible to enforce the law onto e-scooter users.
The local rep says a number of e-scooter users are choosing to "flaunt the law" and due to this she believes the law should "go further."
It was revealed this week that extra requirements for e-scooters are being considered by government which could include wearing helmets and having them registered.
Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien says he intends to bring in further safety measures.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Olivia Larkin says there must be a "better way" to control this situation.
She has called for a new system to be introduced before it's too late: "We're calling for a new system that will include registration, a licence plate or perhaps traffic wardens who are out and about can be alleviated to report these incidents to Gardai. There has to be a better way, we can’t let this continue until something serious happens."
