The Heritage Officer of Monaghan County Council has been successful in securing a total of €140,000 in funding from the Heritage Council to support heritage projects and initiatives in 2026.
This includes €80,000 awarded under the Historic Towns Initiative towards essential repair works to the Rossmore Memorial Fountain, which will be match-funded by Monaghan Municipal District.
These works form a key action of both the Monaghan Town Centre First Plan and the Heritage-Led Regeneration Plan for Monaghan Town.
An additional €40,000 has been awarded to the Heritage Section for the delivery of Heritage Plan actions.
This funding will support a local Heritage Grant Scheme for small community-led projects, as well as Heritage Week events taking place across the county.
A further €20,000 has been awarded for a joint project between the Heritage Section and Monaghan Council Museum to develop a Community Archaeology Project at Rossmore Castle.
This project will involve archaeological geophysical surveys and test trenching, alongside community engagement initiatives.
