€2.1m funding for local towns and villages across region

Nationally, funding of €26 million has been announced for 116 projects in rural communities.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has today announced funding of almost €1 million for Co. Cavan, and €1.1 million for Co. Monaghan.

The funding has been announced under the Towns and Villages Renewal Scheme.

Nationally, funding of €26 million has been announced for 116 projects in rural communities across the country.

In Co. Monaghan, €500,000 funding has been made available in Carrickmacross for enhancements to the main street, including a public water feature at the Market Square.

Funding of €300,000 was also announced in Castleblayeny, for the internal fit out of a community building at Mindszenty Park to enable multi-use access by youth, sport and educational groups.

Meanwhile, Monaghan Town will receive €300,000 funding for the development of a motorhome stopover amenity facility with on site services.

Elsewehre, in Co. Cavan, €899,250 funding has been allocated across the county.

This includes a town-wide paint scheme to the value of €299,250 for Killeshandra, along with atmospheric lighting to create a vibrant hub for residents and visitors.

There is €300,000 funding for Kingscourt Active Recreation Hub, which will address the local shortage of outdoor community interactive spaces, by providing a town centre multipurpose active play and sports facility.

Finally, in Mullagh, there is funding of €300,000 through a refreshed painting of main street buildings and improving community outdoor spaces.

Speaking to Northern Sound this morning, local TD Brendan Smith welcomed the news.

Deputy Smith said: “In many instances its volunteers on the ground, local voluntary groups come together with ideas. They identify what’s missing in the town, the potential to develop.

“It doesn’t happen without a huge effort from the local community,” Deputy Smith added.

Monaghan Senator, Robbie Gallagher also welcomed the news.

Senator Gallagher said: “It’s vitally important the funding keeps coming from government, and we’re delighted the funding is coming.

“Monaghan is getting more than its fair share, and indeed is Cavan. It is vitally important our rural towns and villages get as much funding as possible.

 

“We look forward to all these developments taking place in 2026,” the senator added.
