It's been revealed that the cost of erecting signage for new 60km speed limits in Co Cavan has cost €350,000.
Cllr Shane P O'Reilly asked if you have ever seen such a waste of money in all our lives?
The local councillor was infuriated to hear the cost, adding that he believed the signage will do nothing to help with road safety. The changes came into effect on February 7th last for local rural roads.
The outraged councillor said on top of the cost, council outdoor workers and up to four engineers worked for up to 6 weeks on the signage also. Cllr O'Reilly says at the end of the day this was a headline grabbing stunt by the previous government coming into an election. He said the only thing that will improve road safety is good road conditions and enforcement.
