An EPA report is indicating lakes around the Cavan, Monaghan area are posing a challenge.
Today, the EPA has published its three yearly assessment of the overall water quality of all rivers, lakes, estuaries, groundwaters and canals and coast waters around the country.
Dr Jenny Deakin manager of the EPA Water Programme, spoke on the Joe Finnegan show today.

She said that 52% of our waters are in satisfactory ecological condition.
Dr Deacon described it as disappointing that 48% are not, and added that this is a further 2% decline on the last assessment that was published back in 2022.
She noted that some of the biggest problems with lakes in the Shannonside Northern Sound region is excess nutrients getting into the water.
