The PSNI says the Chief Constable will contact the family of murdered Marian Beattie in the near future with an update - as they continue their fight for answers, more than 50 years on.
It comes after the police watchdog last year recommended an independent review into her death, and the original investigation.
The 18-year-old from Portadown was last seen leaving a charity dance in Aughnacloy in March 1973- and was later found dead at the bottom of a nearby quarry.
