A local councillor has raised the issue surrounding the hazards and dangers that e-scooters can cause when used on footpaths. Cllr Niamh Brady brought up a motion at the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council on the issue.
She said following the prevalence of more scooter users on our roads, the dangers have increased. The Fine Gael councilor said that pedestrians, particularly elderly people and people with mobility users, are not able to get out of the way if e-scooters are being on footpaths.
The Cavan councillor highlighted her concerns on the issue following a vulnerable person having a near miss from a scooter on a footpath in Cavan Town recently. The local representative said she has received a lot of complaints highlighting this worrying issue for many. Cllr Brady said more regulation is needed to address these concerns that people have.
