15 local biodiversity projects are to benefit from a funding announcement that was made this week.
The Minister for Housing, Heritage and Local Government James Browne have announced €2.9 million in funding to local authorities for biodiversity projects under the National Parks and Wildlife Service Local Biodiversity Action Fund in 2025.
Minister Niamh Smyth say she is delighted to see 15 local projects will benefit from the funding announcement for various projects in both counties Cavan and Monaghan.
In Cavan over €35,000 has been allocated to the Wetlands Survey for 2025. Monitoring of Barn Owns and their conservation will also receive over €5,000 while over €18,000 has been allocated to phase 2 of the Swift Survey project.
While in Monaghan €17,000 has been allocated to the Biodiversity Awareness Project. €8,500 was also allocated to tree management strategy and €35,000 to grassland management.
Other projects funded are also include the ongoing works in Woodland Bat conservation in Monaghan and a survey of Quagga mussel in Lough Sheelin in County Cavan.
Minister Smyth says this funding will allow others to be aware and encouraged when it comes to biodiversity.
