A former GAA star has been jailed for ten years for what was described as his "intimate involvement" with a gang of ATM robbers in the northeast.
Daniel O’Callaghan, from Monog Road in Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, was also convicted of theft, money laundering and possession of more than €400,000 in stolen cash.
Last Friday, three brothers were jailed for their roles in the theft of almost €800k from ATMs outside various banks and businesses in counties Meath, Cavan and Monaghan in 2018 and 2019.
The gang used stolen diggers to rip the machines out of walls.
Two of them were arrested at the scene of a foiled robbery in Virgina, Co Cavan.
Daniel O’Callaghan was there that day too but managed to get away on foot.
The 31 year old’s DNA was later found at an outhouse used by the gang and last month he was convicted of 16 related offences.
O’Callaghan, who won an All-Ireland club championship with his former club, Crossmaglen Rangers, was jailed for ten years today.
A fifth member of the gang is also in prison.
