Gardai have arrested four teenagers over a number of thefts at retail outlets across Cavan and Monaghan.
The arrests were made last night. The local Armed Support Unit were on mobile patrol last night at 7.50pm and observed 4 males acting suspiciously at the Applegreen on the N3 in Cavan.

The teens were in the process of committing a theft in the store. They attempted to flee the scene but were stopped after getting into an awaiting vehicle which had false UK plates.

It was discovered that this vehicle had been stolen in Dublin the day previously. Following a search of the vehicle, the property found in the boot was identified as having been taken in a number of thefts in retail outlets in Cavan & Monaghan on yesterday's date.
The armed support unit was assisted by colleagues in Cavan, all four males were arrested and detained at Cavan Garda Station. The four men originated from the Dublin area and are well known to Gardai there.

The investigation is continuing into further connection to crimes in the Cavan Monaghan area.

Gardai have issued the following statement: Gardaí in Cavan arrested four individuals following a number of incidents of theft from business premises in Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan yesterday, Friday 14th March 2025.
Shortly before 8pm, Gardaí attached to the Divisional Armed Support Unit while on routine patrol carried out a search on a vehicle in Cavan town.
With assistance from Gardaí in Cavan Community Engagement and Crime Units, the occupants of the car, four male juveniles, aged in their late teens, were arrested. A number of items were recovered from the vehicle.
The vehicle had been the subject of an unauthorised taking earlier in Dublin 22. Three of the four arrested males have been released pending referral to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme. The fourth juvenile male remains in custody at a Garda Station in the Cavan/Monaghan Division. Investigations are ongoing.
