A public property marking event is happening in Monaghan today.
Anyone who has items of value which they would like to protect against potential burglars can bring them along to Aughnamullen Community Centre today.
The public service is being organised by 3 Parishes, Macra and An Garda Síochána.

Property marking is the process of physically etching a piece of property like a bike or trailer, laptop or tools.
A specially-designed machine embosses the item with a small dots in the pattern of the owner's Eircode.
The idea is that markings will make it harder for criminals to sell on stolen property.

The service is free and everyone is welcome to Aughnamullen Community Centre today from 12 -3pm.
