Monaghan County Council is calling for a full review of school bus routes and services across the county.
A motion was put forward at this week's local authority meeting by Cllr Sinead Flynn.
A letter will be issued to Siobhán Griffin, Regional School Transport Manager, and to the Department of Education, seeking immediate intervention from the Minister for Education, Helen McEntee and Bus Éireann to address routes that are currently over capacity.
Cllr Flynn said that urgent steps must be taken to provide additional services and seating capacity to facilitate students and their families in returning to school for the academic year 2025/2026.
