A funding allocation of almost €21,000 has been approved by Monaghan County Council for safety improvement works in the village of Scotstown. Sinn Fein's Cathy Bennett confirmed the news to Northern Sound, following this week's meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Bennett welcomed the funding allocation, adding that she has asked the local authority for safety improvement works in Scotstown for some time now.
According to Cllr Bennett, Monaghan County Council will now devise a pilot scheme for Scotstown village to see how they can slow traffic down. Cllr Bennett has also called for a "pilot scheme" to be rolled-out across every village in Co Monaghan in a bid due reduce the speed of traffic and protect the lives of local pedestrians.
"It's been high on my agenda to see a pilot scheme rolled-out in every village that would ensure traffic calming measures are put in place," said Cllr Bennett. "Yes, in our towns we have traffic calming measures in place but there seems to be an oversight when it comes to our villages. I will continue to ask for policies to be put in place that would see traffic slowing down while entering our villages, driving through them and leaving them."
