A Co Cavan councillor has welcomed funding that will preserve Moneygashel for "years to come."
Earlier this week, an allocation of €100,000 was given under the 2025 Community Monuments Fund to complete conservation works to Moneygashel Cashel located not far from Cavan Burren Park.
Although Moneygashel was constructed around 1500 years ago, Cllr Feeley says it has been "extremely well preserved" over the centuries by locals.
The funding will focus on the stabilisation of two areas where the wall has collapsed, the removal of trees from the structure and installing safety measures to protect visitors to the site.
Cavan County Council have also sought funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to complete work to improve the walkways and access to the site.
He praised the great work done by Annmarie Ward, Heritage Officer, Cavan County Council and her colleagues as well as of Grainne O'Connor, Geopark Manager and her team
Speaking to Northern Sound, the local representative said securing funding such as this does not happen easily.
He added that they are very proud of and committed to sites such as this and will now take the lead on getting this work done:
