Sosad Monaghan is holding a fundraising event this weekend in Monaghan town. The organisation, which works to raise awareness and help prevent suicide in Ireland, offers support and services to people who are struggling with their mental health.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Rachel Barnard highlighted how local fundraising is vital to the organisation because it does not receive core funding from the State. She also highlighted how more and more people are reaching out to Sosad for help.
Rachel says that loneliness has become a big issue locally. "There is quite an issue with mental health. I suppose what we are seeing is, that there is quite a bit of loneliness and maybe a need for more support groups.
"So that is something that we are looking at - starting peer support groups for young people, new mothers, and for men who feel isolated. We are seeing a lot of loneliness now, amongst other issues," she added.
