A carers charity has identified 8,170 family carers in Cavan and 6,528 in Monaghan. Family Carers Ireland is the national charity supporting the 500,000+ family and young carers across the country who care for loved ones such as children or adults with additional needs, older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic or mental health illness.
The Cavan-Monaghan arm of the charity has a shop on Henry Street and a branch in St. Mary's Hospital in Monaghan. Coinciding with national Carers Week, Family Carers Ireland are holding a street collections in both Monaghan and Cavan towns giving members of the community an opportunity to show their support and appreciation for family carers. The Heart of Gold collection this Thursday, 13th June is also intended to raise awareness about the work of carers.
