The funeral of the Garda who died in the line of duty will take place on Friday. Garda Kevin Flatley was killed on Sunday afternoon as he carried out speed checks near Swords, Dublin.
Garda Kevin Flatley will repose at McNally's Funeral Home in Balbriggan on Thursday evening. His removal will then take place on Friday afternoon at Saints Peter and Paul’s Church in Balbriggan at half one.
He will be laid to rest afterwards in Newcastle Cemetery. His family has described him as a dedicated member of the gardai and an avid member and coach of O'Dwyers GAA club.
They've requested that the house remain strictly private at all times and any donations be given to Little Blue Heroes, a charity which supports sick children in becoming honorary gardai. Large numbers are expected to attend the funeral with the Taoiseach describing it as a very difficult and traumatic time for the Force.
Meanwhile, Gardai say they're aware of content online which claims to give an eye witness account of what happened. They say this commentary is completely inaccurate and has no basis whatsoever in fact. They also say the misinformation risks diverting their resources and time from what is a complex and ongoing investigation. Gardai say they've made social media companies aware of the misinformation and its up to them to comment on requests from the Force to remove it.
