Garda figures record drop in reported crime this year

The official CSO crime figures, which are based on garda statistics, are due to be published in the next few weeks.

Gardaí recorded a drop in robberies, burglaries and violent disorder in the first three months of this year.

Riot and violent disorder recorded the largest drop, down 41% compared to the same time last year.

While thefts from the person and aggravated burglaries have fallen by 30%. Fraud offences jumped by 61 per cent, while public order offences are up 2 per cent.

An Garda Síochána publishes provisional Crime data each month in the Commissioners Monthly Report, published on the Garda website www.garda.ie. CSO statistics show that nationally there was a 7% reduction in recorded crime in 2024 compared to 2019. (Source: https://data.cso.ie/table/CJA07).

44% of all Garda stations recorded an overall reduction in recorded crime in 2024 compared to 2019. Long term trends continue to demonstrate an ongoing and sustained reduction in recorded crime.
