The mother of a woman found dead in a canal in Monaghan Town over two years ago has said a Garda peer review of the case has "validated" her concerns over the investigation.
18 months after the Garda peer review into the investigation of Kelly's death began, the Lynch family were presented with the findings by the Gardaí Peer Review Team last week.
The body of the 23-year-old was discovered in the Ulster Canal on March 17th 2024.
There were 93 separate injuries on her body but the tragedy was initially treated as suicide and then as the result of an accidental fall.
Ms Lynch's mother, Julieanne, said the Garda peer review, ordered by the Garda Commissioner, has identified more than 20 recommendations into the investigation.
She says it now verifies the families original concerns, adding as a family, we welcome these findings.
Juileanne believes they represent an important step towards accountability.
Speaking on the Wider View earlier Kelly's Mother said that for over two years her family have lived with questions, concerns and a deep belief that the investigation into Kelly's death fell short in many respects.
Meanwhile, Juileanne said there are people in Monaghan Town that know what happened to Kelly but have not come forward.
In a statement issued to Northern Sound by Gardai, they say the investigation into the death of Kelly Lynch remains open and continues to be carried out by an investigation team based at Monaghan Garda Station.
The investigation included an official State post mortem carried out by the State Pathologist Office.
On 21st October 2024, then Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern, Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division, met with the family of Ms Lynch and listened carefully to their concerns.
Following this meeting the Garda Commissioner directed that a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) from a Division external to the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Division conduct a peer review of the investigation into the death of Ms Lynch.
The Peer Review Team has met with the family of Ms Lynch and their representatives to discuss the peer review findings, which included a recommendation that a file is to be prepared for the Coroner. An Garda Síochána appeals to anyone with direct information on the death of Ms Lynch to contact Gardaí.
