Gardaí continue peer review into death of Kelly Lynch

An Garda Síochána reiterated their calls for anyone with information on the death of Ms Lynch to contact them.

Gardaí are still carrying out the peer review of the original garda investigation into the death of 23-year-old Kelly Lynch, whose body was recovered from the Ulster Canal in Monaghan Town last St Patrick's Day. The peer review, which, is an examination of the original garda investigation aims at identifying if there are any potential additional lines of enquiry, was started last October.

At that time, Kelly's family met with Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to tell them their concerns over the original garda investigation into their daughter's death and he agreed to order the review. Her family told Drew Harris they have concerns about how gardaí did not treat her death as suspicious and how, for example, officers did not collect CCTV from the night she died.

As the first anniversary of the young woman's death approaches, Northern Sound asked An Garda Síochána for an update on the peer review and the case in general.

Gardaí responded by saying they are "currently conducting that peer review of the original Garda investigation and also assisting the Coroner's Inquest and fully co-operating with the GSOC investigation."

"These processes are ongoing," a statement said. An Garda Síochána also reiterated their calls for anyone with information on the death of Ms Lynch to contact them.
