Investigations are continuing in Co Cavan this evening after firearms and ammunition were discovered in Ballyconnell yesterday. The investigation centers around dissident republican activity in the area and follows a search operation in the county by An Garda Siochana.
In a statement this evening, Gardaí say that members of the force attached to the Special Detective Unit conducted the search operation in Ballyconnell and during the course of proceedings, a riffle and a revolver with a large quantity of ammunition of varying calibres were recovered.
No arrests have been made but Gardai are continuing with their investigations into the matter.
