Gardai in Co Cavan are appealing to firearm licence holders to ensure that all firearms are accounted for.
Garda Lisa Stephens outlined that changes to the licenced firearm holder can include that they no longer reside at the home, their house is now vacant or they may be deceased.
In this case, Garda Stephens says it is imperative that the next of kin ensures that the firearm is accounted for.
Locals can do so by surrendering it to An Garda Síochána or placing it with a firearms dealer until it is licensed.
If this is not done you are at risk of having the firearm seized.
Garda Lisa Stephens of Bailieboro Garda Station has this advice: "If you are unsure of what to do call into any Garda Station and you will be advised. Also, when your receive your renewal please act on it straight away, don't put it aside to do it later as the time will pass quickly and all of a sudden you now have not renewed your licence. If you have missed the renewal please get in touch and we will assist you with that."
