Gardaí on murder cold case want to speak to man

The body of Emer O'Loughlin was found 20 years ago in a burnt out caravan in Tubber, Co. Clare.

Gardaí are making a fresh appeal for help to solve a cold-case murder. The body of Emer O'Loughlin was found 20 years ago in a burnt out caravan in Tubber, Co. Clare. A post mortem found the 23 year old art student had suffered a violent death before the fire was started.

The mobile belonged to a man named John Griffin, also known as 'Fozzie', who Gardaí have since been trying to contact. They believe the now 58 year old may have information that can assist them, and two decades on, they hope the public can help with efforts to trace him.

He was formerly of the Mervue area of Galway City, with a last confirmed sighting, on the Aran Island of Inis Mór.  Gardai have never received a missing person report in respect of John Griffin. He is described as being 180cm in height (5ft 11in), and now 58 years of age. He is of a slight build and bald on the top of his head. He often sported a beard, which was shaved off on occasion. He has a distinctive Egyptian ‘Eye of Horus’ tattoo on his throat area and speaks with a local accent.
