Members of Cavan County Council engaged in a full-scale debate around recent fuel protests at their monthly meeting yesterday afternoon.
Cllr Shane P O’Reilly called on suspending standing orders to allow for the debate to take place.
He brought the issue to the council along with the support from the Sinn Fein group on the council along with Cllr Adrian Rodgers.
A mature and structured conversation was had by all elected members on the very important issue.
Cllr O'Reilly said it was the belief of the five councillors that the package that was announced "didn't go far enough."
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Reilly said the ordinary householder was left out of the package.
Earlier this evening, the Government won a motion of confidence in the Dáil by 92 votes to 78.
Cllr O'Reilly has appealed for calm heads, cool tempers and to let the parliamentary process do it's work in the days ahead.
