The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht have confirmed to Northern Sound News that they will no longer fund Cavan Volunteer Centre.
The department say in a statement issued that they have responsibility for the national volunteering strategy and, in furtherance of that strategy, provides core funding to volunteer centres around the country.
They say it should be noted that Volunteer Centres may and do receive income from other sources.
The statement issued to Northern Sound, says after careful consideration, DRCDG has decided that it will no longer fund Cavan Volunteer Centre CLG.
Following discussion between DRCDG, Volunteer Ireland and two local Volunteer Centres (Monaghan and Meath), volunteer information services in Cavan will be maintained until a sustainable solution can be implemented.
