A local TD has accused Government parties of being "wolves in sheep's clothing" when it comes to the North-South Interconnector.
According to Cathy Bennett, Government's methods of "deflection" when it comes to EirGrid and the North-South Interconnector are now "fully transparent" proving in her opinion that they "cannot be trusted" to defend the interests of border communities.
The Cavan-Monaghan TD further accused Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael of "doing nothing of substance" for communities and landowners impacted by the overgrounding of the north-south interconnector.
Under the review of the National Development Plan EirGrid are set to receive €2 billion in taxpayer money to upgrade the grid.
The local TD says the while funds to upgrade the grid are necessary, it is "deeply regrettable" that Government has not commissioned a review into the potential for undergrounding the interconnector.
Deputy Bennett told Northern Sound: "Under the review of the National Development Plan EirGrid are set to receive €2 billion in taxpayer money to upgrade the grid.
"While funds to upgrade the grid are necessary and welcome, it is deeply regrettable that neither Fianna Fáil nor Fine Gael have been willing to meaningfully acknowledge the concerns of border communities, and even commission a review into the potential for undergrounding the interconnector.
"Their charade is simple and now fully exposed - in opposition speak to the interests of our communities, but in government take absolute zero action."
